The Holy Father also participated in the meeting, connecting from Casa Santa Marta.After a brief greeting from the Holy Father, the new member of the Council, Cardinal Ambongo Besungu, Metropolitan Archbishop of Kinshasa, was presented to the participants, and some contributions were made on the life of the Church in the various continents, particularly in the current health situation. The Secretary of the Council summarized the steps taken in drafting the text of the new Apostolic Constitution, while in the meantime the observations, amendments and proposals received from the Departments consulted in recent months are being studied. The next meeting is set for the month of February.
During the summer months the Council was able to work via internet on the text of the new Apostolic Constitution, the updated draft of which was presented to the Holy Father. In accordance with usual praxis, the competent Dicasteries are now proceeding with the reading of the text.Today’s meeting was convened to summarize the work done and to study how to support the implementation of the new Constitution, once promulgated. In his address, the Holy Father stressed that "the reform is already underway, also in some administrative and economic aspects". The next meeting is scheduled for the month of December and will take place via internet again, due to the health situation, in accordance with the plan already established.
This newly established Commission oversees and judges on a case-by-case basis which economic activities as well as public contracts should remain confidential.
