Cardinalate. Created cardinal bishop of Albano in a consistory celebrated in 1068 (1). Consecrated (no information found). Subscribed a papal bull issued in favor of the monastery of S. Benedetto in Mantua before 1073. Participated in the papal election of 1073, in which Pope Gregory VII was elected.

Death. Ca. 1074, (no place found). Buried no information found).

(28) 2. BELMONTE, Uberto (?-1082)

Birth. (No date or place found). Of a family originally from Rimini. It is also said that he belonged to the Caminate family. His first name is also listed as Umberto; as Humberto; as Hubert; as Humbert; as as Uberto da Palestrina.

Education. (No information found).

Cardinalate. Created cardinal bishop of Palestrina in a consistory celebrated in 1068 (1). Consecrated (no information found). Participated in the papal election of 1073, in which Pope Gregory VII was elected. He appears in the Constitutionem inter Gregoriium papam et Landulfum, Beneventanum principem, signed in the palace of Benevento on August 12, 1073. He consecrated the altar of S. Andrea in the church of S. Cecilia, Rome, on August 31, 1073. Together with Cardinal Gherard of Ostia, he was legate in Germany; he left Rome in March 1074; early in April, he was in Pforzheim; and on the 20th of that month, in Nürnberg; on November 18, the legates asserted papal authority over Liemar, archbishop of Bremen; he received a letter from Pope Gregory VII as legate; and on December 7, he was back in Rome. He was present at the meeting of Canossa between Pope Gregory VII and the emperor on January 28, 1077. He spent some time in northern Italy, and on August 28, 1077, he was in S. Michele a Marturi. In a Roman synod on May 2, 1082, he protested against the use of church properties for war purposes.
