(1) Ganzer, Die entwicklung des auswärtigen kardinalats im hohen mittelater, p. 49, says that it is possible that Rangier was regarded as a cardinal because he often was in the company of Pope Urban II and that the question concerning his cardinalate could hardly be decided. Chacón, Vitæ, et res gestæ Pontificvm Romanorum et S. R. E. Cardinalivm, I, col. 888; and Mas Latrie, Trésor de chronologie d'histoire et de géographie, col. 11180, no. 13, say that he may be confused with Cardinal Raniero (1097).
(2) This is according to Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirchen Roms: 1049-1130, p. 207-209 no. 2. Ganzer, Die entwicklung des auswärtigen kardinalats im hohen mittelater, p. 45-49, no. 14, says that he died on March 23, 1112. Hüls mentions some additional documents that attest his cardinalate and title, which were not known to Ganzer and says that Ganzer and other sources partially confuse Cardinal Rangier with his successor in the see of Reggio, Rogerius, who occupied it between 1099 and 1116.
