Birth. (No date or place found). Of the counts of Marsi. Son of Borrelli, maioris. He is also listed as Giovanni dei Conti de' Marsi; as Ioannes Marsicanus; as Giovanni de Marsico; as Minutus de Labicum; as Minutus only; and as Giovanni only (1).

Education. (No information found).

Cardinalate. Created cardinal bishop of Frascati (or Labico) in a consistory celebrated in 1093 (2). Consecrated (no information found). Subscribed papal bulls issued between October 15, 1100 and March 20, 1105. Attended the Council of Guastalla in October 1106. In 1111, he was imprisoned, together with Pope Paschal II and several other cardinals, by Emperor Heinrich V; he escaped in disguise, with Cardinal Leone, bishop of Ostia, and led the Romans to rise against the emperor; he was seriously wounded in the face but survived; the prisoners were taken by the imperial soldiers to Sabina; the pope wrote Cardinal Minuto several letters; the cardinals who remained in Rome issued a decree declaring null all papal decisions taken under violence and in captivity. (1) According to Hüls, Kardinäle, Klerus und Kirchen Roms: 1049-1130, p. 139-140, no. 4; and Klewitz, Reformpapsttum und Kardinalkolleg, p. 118, no.18, he may be confused or identical with Cardinal Minuzzio (or Minutius, or Giovanni Minuto), bishop of Labico (1080); and Cardinal Giovanni Minuzzo (or Minutus), title of S. Maria in Trastevere (1061). His biography from the diocese of Frascati, linked above, says that in 1089 he was cardinal priest of S. Maria in Trastevere; and bishop of Frascati in 1089.
(2) This is according to "Essai de liste générale des cardinaux. Les cardinaux du XIè siècle". Annuaire Pontifical Catholique 1927, p. 149, no. 6. Chacón, Vitæ, et res gestæ Pontificvm Romanorum et S. R. E. Cardinalivm, I, col. 886, no. II, says that he may have been created cardinal by Pope Urban II in 1088 or by Pope Paschal II.

Cardella, Memorie storiche de' cardinali della Santa Romana Chiesa, I, pt. 1, 183, says that he participated in the Lateran Synod in 1112. Cristofori, Cronotasi dei cardinali di Santa Romana Chiesa, p. 26, says that he died in 1112. Mas Latrie, Trésor de chronologie d'histoire et de géographie, col. 1180, no. 2, indicates that he died in 1110.
