Education. Joined the Canons Regular of S. Frediano of Lucca.

Early life. Ordained (no further information found). Prior of the Lateran monastery, Rome.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal priest of S. Clemente in a consistory celebrated in 1145. Subscribed papal bulls issued between December 31, 1145 and February 5, 1153; February 16 and November 17, 1154; December 19, 1154 and June 26, 1158. Named archpriest of the patriarchal Vatican basilica in 1152. Legate in Germany in 1153 and 1158. Participated in the papal election of 1153, in which Pope Anastasius IV was elected. Participated in the papal election of 1154, in which Pope Adrian IV was elected.

Episcopate. Elected bishop of the suburbicarian see of Porto e Santa Rufina in December 1158. Consecrated (no information found). Subscribed papal bulls issued between January 29 and July 30, 1159; and October 15, 1159 and June 22, 1176. Participated in the papal election of 1159, in which Pope Alexander III was elected. Accompanied Pope Alexander III to France from April 1162 until September 1165; attended the Council of Dijon together with the legate, Cardinal Ubaldo. Legate in Pavia to obtain the peace with Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa. Returned to Rome.

Death. Before the end of 1176, Rome. Buried in the patriarchal Lateran basilica.

Birth. (No date found), Rome. Of a noble family. Later, the family adopted the last name Orsini. He is also listed as Giordano Orsini.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal deacon in a consistory celebrated in 1145; his deaconry is not known (1). Subscribed papal bulls issued between August 18 and December 15, 1145. Opted for the order of cardinal priests and the title of S.Susanna (2) in December 1145. Subscribed papal bulls issued between December 31, 1145 and June 7, 1153; September 8, 1153 and August 23, 1154. Legate of Pope Eugenius III in Germany, before Emperor Konrad III, together with Cardinal Ottaviano of S. Cecilia; having died the emperor, he was succeeded by Friedrich I Barbarossa; Cardinal Giordano annulled the marriage of the new emperor due to the close blood relation with the wife, which was prohibited by canon law, and the monarch was free to contract new nuptials on the return from the legation, he went through France and Normandy; the legate committed such excesses that Bernard de Clairvaux, future saint, wrote to the pope informing the pontiff of the violence used to obtain money; this produced hate and contempt of the people against the cardinal. Participated in the papal election of 1153, in which Pope Anastasius IV was elected. Participated in the papal election of 1154, in which Pope Adrian IV was elected. Did not participate in the papal election of 1159, in which Pope Alexander III was elected. In several occasions he helped the popes control the Roman populace, who, instigated by senators and the heretic Arnaldo da Brescia, became rebellious and revolted. He was an enthusiastic student of antiquity and established a public and rich museum in Rome.
