Birth. Aroun 1180, Amalfi. Of the signori di Capua. Son of Mansone di Landolfo (1180-1213). He had a brother named Giovanni. Nephew of Cardinal Pietro Capuano, maior (1193). He is also listed as Petrus Capuanus; as Petrus de Capua; as Pietro Caputo; as Pietro da Capua; as Petrus Capuanus der Jüngere; and as Pierre de Capoue.

Education. he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Paris and obtained a doctorate in theology there.

Early life. Apostolic subdeacon. Became a famous theologian.

Episcopate. Elected patriarch of Antioch, April 25, 1219; occupied the see until his promotion to the cardinalate. Consecrated (no information found).

Cardinalate. Created cardinal deacon of S. Giorgio in Velabro in the consistory of October, November or December 1219. Subscribed the papal bulls issued between December 15, 1220 and February 27, 1226; and May 7, 1227 and February 26, 1236. Participated in the conclave of 1227, which elected Pope Gregory IX. Did not participate in the conclave of 1241, which elected Pope Celestine IV. Participated in the conclave of 1241-1243, which elected Pope Innocent IV; died during its celebration. He wrote Ars concionandi = Rosa alphabetica (grammar); Summa (philosophy).

Death. March 21/23, 1242, Rome. Buried (no information found).
