(1) This is according to "Essai de liste générale des cardinaux. Les cardinaux du XIIIè siècle". Annuaire Pontifical Catholique 1929, p. 122, which says that Genovese historians like Federico Federici and Giovanni Spataflora affirm his cardinalate; Eubel, Hierarchia Catholica Medii Aevi, p. 7, n. 6, doubts his promotion to the cardinalate; Paravicini Bagliani, Cardinali di curia e "familiae" cardinalizie. Dal 1227 al 1254, II, 528, says that no contemporary documents attest to his existence and he does not appear in the registry of Pope Innocent IV either; therefore, he concludes, he does not have any reason to believe that he even existed.
