LELLI, Teodoro (1428-1466)

Birth. 1428, Teramo (1). Son of Simone Lelli, jurisconsult of the Councils of Pisa and Costanza. His last name is also listed as Lellis and as Lelio.

Education. Obtained a doctorate in utroque iure, both canon and civil law.

Early life. Canon of the cathedral chapters of Treviso and of Verona. Auditor of the Sacred Roman Rota. Auditor of causes of the Apostolic Palace. Accompanied Cardinal Guillaume d'Estouteville in his legation to France; they left Rome on May 16, 1454. Named nuncio in France in 1458. Two years later, in 1460, defended Pope Pius II against Duke Sigismund of Tyrol because of the treaties that had been published.

Sacred orders. (No information found).

Episcopate. Elected bishop of Feltre, February 15, 1462. Consecrated (no information found). He went to Rome in May 1464 to transmit to the pope the objections of Francesco Sforza concerning the crusade against the Turks. Transferred to the see of Treviso, September 17, 1464 (2). He was a friend of Pope Paul II and remained in Rome as his familiar.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal priest in secret at the end of 1464 or beginning of 1465; died before his creation was published.

Death. March 31, 1466 (3), Rome. Buried in the church of S. Maria Nuova, Rome (4).

The transcription of his epitaph that appears in his biography in Italian, linked above, indicates that he lived 37 years, nine months and twenty-two days, while Chacón indicates that he lived 37 years, two months and twenty-two days.

BAROZZI, Giovanni (ca. 1420-1466)

Birth. Ca. 1420, Venice. Son of Ludovico Barozzi and Polissena Moro. Nephew of Pope Paul II.

Early life. Apostolic subdeacon in the court of Pope Eugenius IV.

Sacred orders. (No information found).

Episcopate. Elected bishop of Bergamo, October 31, 1449. Consecrated (no information found). Received the commendam of the priorate of Pontida in 1457. Promoted to the patriarchal see of Venice, January 7, 1465.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal priest in secret at the end of 1464 or beginning of 1465; died before his creation was published.

Death. Holy Wednesday April 2, 1466, of an apoplexy (some sources say that he was poisoned). Buried the following day in the tomb of Bishop Bartolomeo Querini in the patriarchal cathedral.
