Birth. 1484 (1), Parthenay, France. Of the dukes of Longueville. Third son of François d'Orleans, count of Dunois and duke of Longueville, and Agnès de Savoie. The other brothers were François II , duke of Longueville, and Louis I d'Orléans-Longueville, duke of Longueville. Relative of Kings Louis XI and Louis XII of France. He was known with the appellative of Cardinal de Longueville. He is also listed as Jean de Aurelia.

Education. The duke of Orléans, future King Louis XII of France, took care of his education.

Episcopate. Elected archbishop of Toulouse, November 29, 1503; constituted administrator until reaching the canonical age of 27 years; occupied the see until his death. Consecrated April 26, 1517, Sunday of the Good Shepherd, in the church of Sainte-Geneviève, Paris, by Cardinal Philippe de Luxembourg, bishop of Arras, assisted by Étienne Poncher, bishop of Paris, and by Jean LeVeneur, bishop of Lisieux. Granted the pallium, August 14, 1517. Abbot commendatario of the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Marie de Boccolini, archdiocese of Rouen. Named bishop of Orléans, June 26, 1521; occupied the see until his death.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal priest in the consistory of March 3, 1533; received the red hat and the title of S. Martino in Monte, March 3, 1533.

Death. September 24, 1533, Tarascon, while he was travelling to Marseille to meet Pope Clement VII, who was going to perform the marriage ceremony of his niece Catalina de' Medici with Henri, duke d'Orléans, future King Henri II of France. Buried (no information found); his heart was deposited at the Sainte-Chapelle in the château of Châteaudun.
