(1) There is uncertainty concerning the year of his promotion to the cardinalate due to the fact that until the revision of the official list of popes in 1947, Annuario Pontificio indicated that the pontificate of Pope Agapitus II lasted from 946 to 956 (without mentioning day or month). This source now says that it lasted from May 10, 946 until December 955. Cristofori Cronotasi dei cardinali di Santa Romana Chiesa, p. 9, indicates that he was created cardinal in 956. "Essai de liste générale des cardinaux. Les cardinaux des 10 premiers siècles". Annuaire Pontifical Catholique 1926, p. 157, no. 4, also says that he was created cardinal in 956 but includes the creation in the pontificate of Pope Agapitus II, indicating that it lasted from 946 until 956. Gams, Series episcoporum Ecclesiae catholicae, p. VIII, says that he was named bishop of Porto in 956. Both, Cristofori, p. XI, says that the pontificate of Pope Agapitus II lasted from June 946 until August 956; and Gams, p. II, indicates that the pontificate of Pope Agapitus II lasted from ca. April 946 until November 8, 955. Neither Cristofori nor Gams indicate in which pontificate he was created cardinal.
(2) Cardella, Memorie storiche de' cardinali della Santa Romana Chiesa, I, pt. 1, 80; and Chacón, Vitæ, et res gestæ Pontificum Romanorum : et S.R.E. Cardinalium, I, col. 719, no. 20, indicate that he participated in the Roman Council of February 25, 964. "Essai de liste générale des cardinaux. Les cardinaux des 10 premiers siècles". Annuaire Pontifical Catholique 1926, p. 157, no. 4, says that he died in 960. Gams, Series episcoporum Ecclesiae catholicae, p. VIII, places a successor, Cardinal Benedetto, in the see of Porto in 960.
