The Press Office of the Holy See announced that on June 30 and July 1, 2011, was held at the Vatican the meeting of the Council of Cardinals for the Study of Organizational and Economic Problems of the Holy See, chaired by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, S.D.B., secretary of State. It was attended by the Cardinals Antonio María Rouco Varela, archbishop of Madrid, Spain; Norberto Rivera Carrera, archbishop of México, México; Wilfrid Fox Napier, O.F.M.., archbishop of Durban, South Africa; Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne, archbishop of Lima, Perú; Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, archbishop of Lagos, Nigeria; Agostino Vallini, vicar general of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome; Nicholas Cheong Jinsuk, archbishop of Seoul, South Korea; and Odilo Pedro Scherer, archbishop of São Paulo, Brazil.
The Prefecture for Economic Affairs of the Holy See was represented by its president, Cardinal Velasio De Paolis, C.S., and the Accountant General, Dr. Stephen Fralleoni. For the Governatorate of the State of Vatican City (SCV) and the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See (APSA) were present Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo; and Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, respectively chairman of the Commission of Cardinals for the SCV and secretary general of the Governatorate (SCV); Cardinal Attilio Nicora; and Archbishop Domenico Calcagno, respectively president and secretary of the APSA. At the invitation of the cardinal secretary of State were heard for the matter of their competence, the director general of Vatican Radio, Father Federico Lombardi, S.J., and Dr. Alberto Gasbarri, managing director.
The agenda items were: - Consolidated accounting of the Holy See for the year 2010; - Actual budget of the Governorate of Vatican City for 2010; - Peter's Pence and contributions based on canon 271 of the Code of Canon Law, received in 2010. The Holy See's Consolidated Financial Statements for the fiscal year 2010 reported a total income of 245.2 million Euros and total costs of 235.3 million, resulting in a surplus of almost 10 million Euros. This is a positive result, especially compared to the previous two budgets: in 2009, with a loss of 4.1 million; and in 2008, with a loss of 911 thousand Euros. In Crónica - 2011.
