Birth. (No date found), Monte Sacrato, near Lucca. Of poor parents. He is also listed as Alberto da Monte Sacrato.

Education. (No information found).

Cardinalate. Created cardinal deacon of S. Eustachio in a consistory celebrated in 1151 (1). Opted for the order of cardinal priests and the title of Ss. Apostoli in 1152.

Death. Ca. 1156, (no place found). Buried (no information found).

(32) 2. BERNARD, O.Cist. (?-1153)

Birth. (No date found), Rennes, France. He is also listed as Bernard de Rennes.

Education. Entered the Order of the Cistercians at Clairvaux. Disciple of Bernard de Clairvaux, future saint.

Early life. Canon of the cathedral chapter of Rennes during the episcopate of bishop Hamelin (1127-1141). Later, he went to Rome, where he edified everybody by his exemplary life.

Cardinalate. Created cardinal deacon of Ss. Cosma e Damiano in a consistory celebrated in 1151 (1). Subscribed papal bulls issued between December 31, 1152 and April 10, 1153. Legate in Germany in 1151. Participated in the papal election of 1153, which elected Pope Anastasius IV.

Death. Shortly after the election of Pope Anastasius IV in July 1153 (2), in Rome. Buried (no information found).

Beatification. He is inscribed as a blessed in the Martyrologe Gallican of Andrè Sauffay. His feast is celebrated on May 1.
